Kael Symes was never the hardcore type when he started life, it is the cruelty of the circumstances that changed him completely. Magical creatures attacked his body and soul in a combined way and then the loved ones were snatched away from him. Now the man is like a warrior who seeks revenge from all those who wronged him in the past. Running from Arkum Zul was impossible but Kael’s zeal saved him and his friends.
Later the team tried to run away from the horrible place in a ship and had to confront a heavy storm which too appeared like a devil in front of them. At the end of the storm, the team finds itself on an island where the scenario is even worse.
Kael thinks that he cannot live a normal life anymore and accepting the fate of becoming a DeathWizard is the only thing left for him in life. The more he will try to run away from his fate the more troublesome his life will become so she decides to unleash the powers on the enemies who have made his life hell. J.D. Franx portrays Kael as an innocent person at the beginning of the story and as we move on he starts looking like a devil.
Though he tries to better his fate all of it happens to be of no use. Horrors in The Legacy and The Curse of Home were not for those with weak hearts and this book shares the same feelings. Things through which Kael had to pass were all monstrous and full of pain, that’s why Simon Vance narrates it like a lament. The narrator correctly depicts the torture which Kael had to face.
