Between the World and Me

Between the World and Me is a memoir by Ta-Nehisi Coates. He is a journalist and writer from the USA. He worked as a national correspondent of The Atlantic and gained a lot of readership during that time. He wrote there mainly about political, social, and cultural issues which were mainly about white supremacy and African Americans.

Ta-Nehisi Coates did pretty well with the narration of this book. His voice has depth and that made this book so good to listen to in audio.

Race was the basic idea behind Americans in building their empire. It is a falsehood that damaged all of us but at the same time, is false quite heavily on the bodies of the Black men and women. Those were the ones who were exploited through segregation and slavery. Those are also the ones who get threatened, imprisoned, and murdered today out of all proportion.  What will it be like for someone to inhabit a Black body and then look for an acceptable way to live within that? Moreover, how could we all reckon honestly with a such fraught history and then free ourselves from all of its immense burdens?

The author of this book attempted to answer all these questions. He did so by writing a letter to his teenage son about all this stuff.
