A Sellsword’s Compassion

Usually, rulers or kings decide about their successor during their life time but King Marcus didn’t have this opportunity before his death. The death of the king was a great tragedy for the entire kingdom and now the throne is left without an heir. The children of the king start fighting for the throne and this weakens the empire even more. Jacob Peppers does not start the story in a complex way but after every chapter, things get tricky for everyone.
Aaron was not among the heirs so he had no troubles in life and he wanted to keep things going on smoothly. Life had other plans for Aaron and when he finds himself near the dead body of a prince he thinks that he has been trapped in something quite grave. He never thought that he would join the war but now he has to select a side because many people want him dead anyway.

If this goes on in the same way then there is a threat that the peace of the entire realm would get disturbed permanently and Aaron would be held responsible in the end. The priority for Aaron however, is to keep himself alive because after that he would be able to take on the rest of the challenges.

The Son of the Morning and The Truth of Shadows were stuffed with heroic things so such an expectation from this novel was quite natural. Steven Brand’s name as the narrator of the novel also points towards the well-charged story which has a double impact because of the narrator now.
