In the world of drugs, it is a one-way ticket i.e you can enter it but you cannot get out of it at all. Philip K. Dick talks about an extraordinary drug here which is branded as Substance D in the underworld. Bob Arctor is the name famous in the entire underworld for the dealing of the Substance D. So when an officer from the police department is given the job to track down the whole mafia that is involved in the thing, the first step which the officer takes is of changing his identity and appearance.
Fred was not an ordinary police officer rather he was the best among the rest that’s why he was chosen for this uphill task that can cost him his life if he fails. The hero is not reluctant to take on the mission and he disguises himself as Bob so that more and more people try to establish contact with him for the Substance D.
Fred takes another risk when he takes the dosage of Substance D and comes to know that the department was completely unaware of the original effects of the drug. There are some comic scenes same as Blade Runner and The Man in the High Castle that are narrated by Paul Giamatti but the sense of the story is not comic at all.
Serious threats to the life of Fred and other people who are connected to the dangerous substance make the story teasing. The concern of the audience increases more when people realize that there is no way out for anyone from the dark net.
