The end is near and the preparations of the Great Seer don’t seem to be enough against the evil that is about to land on the world. All of this was predicted long ago and people were mentally ready but being technically ready is another thing. They needed proper techniques and equipment against the evil which was approaching and now they think that they are short of both. Rachel Aaron tries to finalize the series in this fifth part, the author ends everything in a stepwise pattern here.
The talk about the dragon wars and the approach of the end for the world, all of this is dramatically narrated by Vikas Adam. Julius seems to be fighting a lone battle because the hero finds himself short of friends and allies in this tough situation. He is sure that the calculations which the seers have made are wrong and he has to stick with his plans to succeed in the mission on which he has been working since the beginning.
The concept about the Nice Dragons is also altered thus Julius acts more like a rebel here who is negating every pattern that was previously being followed in the land. Books such as Part-Time Gods and Night Shift Dragons were not that revolutionary in approach.
This is the emergence of a new idea that goes against the old thoughts and trends. Rules are broken but the good thing is that the good side appears to be winning in the end. The dragons show their full force to end the war with which the reign of the dragons also ends.
