Grace Valley is like many other soothing places which the author Robyn Carr has introduced in different novels that he has created. This is a place where people take care of each other and almost everyone in society knows each other very well. This society is like a family which is good to see but there are problems too for those who want to keep a secret.
Keeping a secret in such a society is not easy at all. There is always someone who is keeping an eye on you and a minor deviation from the main course would get spread in the entire society. Dr. June Hudson is also a part of this society and she is famous as compared to the other people because she is the only doctor in this small place.
Everyone in the locality knows her and this makes it difficult for her to hide her secret love for Jim Post. Her secret lover is an undercover agent and he comes to meet her once in a while whenever he is in the area. June hasn’t told anyone about her love because she does not want rumours to fly in the air which would make her life and the life of her love difficult. Therese Plummer narrates how June feels when her ex-lover returns to the place after more than two decades.
The good news is that he is single but June needs a distraction from the town in order to meet him. Suddenly the town gets hit with major criminal acts and June thinks of it as a good time to meet her old crush because everyone is busy in the news of the incidents. The characters are more cunning than the characters of Redwood Bend or Hidden Summit. The story merges quite well at the climax where we finally witness the unity in plot. The author keeps on adding new characters for a while and then joins their fate to a single point.
