Love and passion are described when the story begins and then stubbornness and persistence take over. Min Jin Lee portrays a girl named Sunja who wants to have love and also wealth with the help of which she can enjoy her life. Days when she was a teenage girl, she falls in love with a boy who promises a lot of things here. She falls in love and thinks that he can fulfill her dreams.
The result comes the opposite when she becomes pregnant and her lover leaves her because of some reason and marries and girl in his family. She is left with no choice but to commit suicide but she meets another powerful or wealthy man on the way and she marries him without a second thought in mind.
The man takes her to Japan where she starts a new life but it is not a pleasant one either. There we observe a blend of Free Food for Millionaires and The Best Girls when the girl decides to face all the challenges in her life and never goes back to her lover even when she has the chance.
She also does not tell her son about his true father. The story moves on for three generations and it is a marvelous story where the character does not hope or dream. Sunja used to dream when she was a young girl but the moment she becomes pregnant she gets to know the realities of life. So she just leaves the dream world permanently and starts living in the real world for the rest of her life.
